The Soul Memory of Atlantis: A Lost Power Remembered (Part 5)
Edgar Cayce's spiritual reading on Atlantis—retold in modern language with its deep implications for today.
Edgar Cayce Reading 364-5
Note: This is a modern American English translation of Edgar Cayce Reading 364-5.
Gertrude Cayce: You now have in front of you the reading given through this channel about the lost continent of Atlantis. I’m holding a copy of it. Please answer the questions I’ll be asking about it.
Edgar Cayce: Yes, we have the information that was given about the continent of Atlantis. When thinking about this material, it's natural that many questions will arise for those who are seriously trying to understand it. But if you carefully observe those who are truly interested, you’ll find they’re often people who carry some kind of influence—either innately or through past experience—from that time and place. As has been said before, it’s worthwhile to pay attention to this. Analytical and research-driven minds, especially those drawn to spiritual, psychic, or occult subjects, won’t miss much. When they come across this kind of material, they’ll often feel a deep urge to express something like, “I know this, but I don’t know how to explain it.” These individuals often become dreamers—try it and you’ll see.
I’m ready for the questions.
Q: Can you explain what was said about Amilius—the one who first recognized the division of people into male and female—and how that relates to the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible? What do the symbols of Adam, Eve, the apple, and the serpent mean?
A: That’s a topic that would take an entire lecture by itself. What’s been given so far describes a spiritual teacher—a being who came forward to help people remember their deeper connection to the Divine Creative Forces. These stories and symbols (like Adam, Eve, the apple, and the serpent) were used by ancient people to explain spiritual truths. The physical writers and scribes took this symbolic knowledge and blended it with their own insights, especially when they entered altered states of consciousness or tapped into the soul’s records—what some call the akashic records. But these records were also preserved in physical form—like carvings in stone—which humanity has always attempted to do throughout time. Even today, we carve things in stone that we want future generations to remember.
In the ancient records, here’s what we find: Amilius (also known as Adam) was the first to recognize that, unlike the animals, he could create new beings like himself. This ability came from within himself—not from the world around him. This gave rise to companionship—the same impulse for connection that exists within the Creator. That’s what the “apple” symbolizes: the “apple of the eye,” or the longing for relationship, built into both Creator and creation.
This awareness marked a turning point. Once beings took on physical form, they could project themselves in whatever way they chose—in color, in energy, in form. This power expressed itself in music, art, and even in the deepest spiritual or creative moments humans can imagine. After all, wasn't He—the Son of the living God—made manifest in a physical world so He could be a companion to creation itself? He was instructed to bring everything under spiritual control—not to dominate, but to bring harmony. He knew He was part of the whole—created through, by, and within the whole.
That’s why the spiritual command was: “Be in the world, but not of it.” The “apple” represents the longing for connection and experience that ultimately brought about the carnal, physical experiences we now know as sexuality. And the “serpent” is the symbol of that desire that, once acted upon outside of spiritual harmony, leads to being ruled by physical urges instead of spiritual guidance. In simple terms, it’s about the loss of willpower—the inability to govern ourselves through spiritual understanding. That’s all for now.
